It's been months since Matt and I have both been in SF for a full weekend, a three day weekend such as this no less! My hope for the weekend is to cross some things off the list that we've been meaning to do for month ago, some good quality time outside and do a bit of exploring. What I've discovered recently is that since we've been in SF for awhile we've gotten into routines that keep us from trying new things or checking out stuff we had our our list when we first moved here. If you hadn't guessed, Matt and I have a tendency to be creatures of habit, breaking out of them can be a bit tough for us primarily because Matt is comfortable with the way they are and I generally get a bit stressed out about things that don't fit perfectly in a box.
So this weekend will be filled with things like:
- Taking the ferry to Angel Island for a hike (we've never done this before)
- Breakfast at Universal Cafe (been recommended to me by multiple people, never gone)
- Lunch one day at East Coast West Deli (a place Matt saw on Check Please and has been dying to go)
- Drop his plant off at his new office (I'd like to see it and since he's riding his bike to work, the plant is still at home)
- Spend some time with friends (were counting on Rachel to find us something to do, she's so good that way)
- Do a little shopping (our crazy weekend in Mpls resulted in Matt losing his dress shoes, no surprise here...)
- Watch "I'm Not There" (which Neflix sent us probably 3 months ago and we have yet to watch)
- Look into some flights for some upcoming weddings in Nashville and Arizone to see if we can afford to go
- Get a Costco membership (exciting stuff here..)
- Finish up a few proposals (since meetings all day don't allow me to get any work done)
Along with all of the normal things we need to do like laundry, grocery shopping, etc. Matt keeps reminding me that we only have three days but I wouldn't be me if I didn't try to do a 100 hours of things in 72 hours :)
It's been a wild and wacky week, month, year - you know how it goes. For the past few weeks in particular work and life have been super busy. Matt and I just realized that this is the first Saturday night we've spent together alone in over a month.
We've got our friend's Steve's wedding next weekend which means we are headed to Minnie next Saturday so we'll be gone for the next two weekends as well.
So this Saturday night, we are doing - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Matt got fitted for his tux (for the wedding), we picked up some produce at the Farmer's Market, dropped off the dry cleaning, I got a pedicure and picked up some sushi and cupcakes for dinner. We are gonna eat and watch the Olympics. My kind of night....
Don't worry, I'll have more crazy party pictures next weekend :)
So one of my bestest friends, Jon reminded me of a trip he and his wife (one of my other bestest friends) took to SF back in May 2006. In looking at the pictures, I was reminded of how great summertime is in SF. Here is a snapshot of some of the cool stuff we did. One of the many great things about Jon is that he is a librarian. This means, that he does his research before taking a trip and has a solid list of stuff he wants to do when he gets into town. Me being the list girl that I am is all about attacking the list.
We got to do a ton of cool stuff thanks to Jon's mad research skills.
1. Roller coasters on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz
2. Barry Bonds batting 715 (our first Giants game ever!)
3. Labyrinth on the coastal trail (near Lands End)
4. The bay in Santa Cruz (this is where Matt threw his phone overboard, that is another story)
5. Jenny, Meredith and me (Meredith lived in SF for the summer which was so awesome, she just came and visited recently - it made me realize how much I missed having her around).
I am done with the rain, I cannot wait for summertime!!!
Our friends Kara and Andy came to town this weekend and we went up to South Tahoe to go skiing. Fun was had by all.
For dinner, we went 19 Kitchen Bar on the top floor of Harveys. Thanks Rachel for the recommendation, it was delicious. Plus they gave us cotton candy with our check!
I am sad to report that I think I am addicated to the television. We've been w/o cable television for 3 days now and I am definitely going through withdrawl.
We only have basic cable. This is diliberate. We like to think it limits our tv watching. Reality is, we still have it on whenever we are home. It's often just background noise but nonetheless, it's on.
When the weekend started, we were looking forward to doing nothing. We just got home from 2 chaotic weeks of holiday festivities and definitely needed to rest-up. It has been raining all week so we thought it would be a good weekend for nesting.
Since we had no cable, I watched three movies in three days which is very rare for me. Plus, we watched two tv shows on Matt's computer just to get our tv fix :)
The good news is having that no cable made me more productive this weekend than I intented to be. I paid all of our bills, balenced the checkbook (I do this every weekend though), went shopping, ran some much needed errands, deep cleaned the bathroom, bought groceries and worked out.
As for tonight - maybe I'll slow down and actually pick up a book or something...
BTW: Here is the only movie I watched this weekend that is worth seeing. Only problem with it is that I just cancelled my MRI appointment tomorrow for fear of being "marked" with a pre-existing condition. Don't worry, the MRI was just to make sure nothing more serious was wrong with my knee - I've been laying off on the running and it's already feeling much better...
So here is my review of our Thanksgiving meal in Calistoga. While it met basic Thanksgiving meal criteria, it no where meets my mother's meal. The stuffing was - blah, they gave me dark meat - bleh, but I did discover I really like cranberry sauce which we typically don't have at our meal in Minnesota. As for dessert - I had pumpkin creme brulee and it was definitely yummy but I think I'll have to get a piece of pumpkin pie tonight just to get my fix....
This is so perfectly San Francisco. My nephews have this big back yard where they play ball. If you are a little kid in San Francisco, you each get one patch of grass, no more :)
Mind you, these were some of the first kids over the age of 4 that I've seen in the city since I've moved here. We've got a theory that they mysteriously disappear (get abuducted) at age 4 and when they reach18 they are put back in SF civilization.
We just had an earthquake. It was a 5.6. This is definitely the biggest earthquake we've felt since moving here. The light and discoball were swinging. Even the pots and pans hanging from the wall were clanking together.
That's it. Matt and I are building our earthquake kit this weekend. Good thing is that we've already got a bunch of this stuff due to Matt being a camper. With all of his gear/goods - we could probably survive for weeks!
