Okay, this is my last in my 4 part Christmas series altho we did just get the camera I thought I lost last Christmas back from Matt's Aunt -(thanks Joanne!) and I am pretty sure I've got some hilarious videos on that (hint: breakdancing) so I may have to do a 2007 Christmas series but I'll try to get you a break for a least a week :)
Here are a few photos from my nephew Ty's hockey game. I got to go to two games while I was home - it was so much fun. Ty is old enough now where they are actually playing real hockey with lines, penalties, positions - the whole bit! The photo below is one of my favorites - my dad and my nephew Nick (middle child just like me!)
Here is Ty actually playing hockey - he's number 11 right front and center! I just have to say again, my nephews rock.
I was fortunate to be able to spend some quality time at home this Christmas. In years past, there's been way too much going on and I generally leave feeling like I didn't get to spend enough time with anyone.
This year was different. I got to play with my nephews, hang out with my family and party with my friends. And with the exception of a few, I got to see and do nearly everything I had hoped.
Here are some highlights.
Christmas Morning. If you follow my blog you may recall my post about my nephew wanting handcuffs. Well as you'll see from the picture below, he was EXTREMELY happy with them and proceeded to cuff anyone and everyone to chairs and each other. Yes, he's an interesting little one.
Swedish Family Dinner. So it's a tradition at our house to have a swedish meal with my Dad's side of the family for Christmas. Lutefisk is a Swedish food that you don't want to try. It's cod soaked in lye. My dad has resorted to bribing us with lottery tickets in order to get us to eat it. In a tough economy, this proved to be especially effective. Here's a video of my brother's girlfriend who decided that shooting the Lutefisk like a shot would be the best approach.
So I've got lots more to share so I'll post this in series. More to come!
I got to spend Memorial weekend visiting friends and family in Minneapolis. I am pretty sure it was the first time since I moved 2 1/2 years ago that I've had a truly relaxing trip that wasn't overrun with too many activities.
I got to see lots of friends and actually spend some quality one on one time with close ones I don't get to see nearly enough. I also got to spend lots of time with my family and actually be home for my nephew Reece's 4th birthday. I don't get to be there for bdays very often so this was particularly fun.
Sadly, I forgot to take pictures most of the weekend but I did get a few of my two youngest nephews Nick and Reece. They are both hams, as you'll see.
This trip was definitely what the doctor ordered. I came back feeling better than I did when I left - which is good.
What did you do for fun when you were a kid? How is it different from what you see kids doing now?

In addition, to riding bikes, playing games in the backyard and having sleepovers with my friends, I was definitely involved in activities when I was a kid - dance, basketball, soccer, etc. however kids have access to far great array of activities than we did.
I just spent the weekend with my nephews and here is what they are doing this summer:
Ty (age 9): Video Game Design class
Nick (age 7): Chess Club
Reece (age 4): LaCrosse
Now Ty and Nick are both also playing baseball this summer and will continue to play hockey in the fall but I was definitely impressed by the diverse activites they were being exposed to. They also awesome at Halo 3 and Guitar Hero :)
My family goes through the rather silly tradition of everyone making up a x-mas list so we can buy presents for each other. It made sense when we were kids but it seems a little strange to do this now that we are all successful adults. But, it's tradition and I love x-mas so I am more than happy to play along.
I sent my list to my family tonight and it got me thinking about one of my favorite things to do when I go back to MN, see my "boys". These are some fun pics from one of the last times I was home and my bro and I took my nephews to the zoo for the day. As part of their x-mas gift, Matt and I take the kids for a day of fun. It's one of my favorite things to do over the holidays. Now that they are getting older, it's tougher to finds things that work for all ages.
Anyone have any good ideas for a day of fun with three crazy wacky boys??
December is shaping up to be a great month. Not only do I get to go home for x-mas to see my family/friends but I get to spend the next two weekends with three of my very best friends.
I'll be in NYC this weekend visiting Lisa and doing some client meetings on Monday and Tuesday. Then I'll come home on Wednesday to Jon and Jenny who will be in town for the next weekend. As I said, lucky me!
Just came across this picture of Jen and I at what was my house and is now her house. Can you figure that one out?
Here are also a few pics of my adoreable nephews Ty, Nick and Reece (the little one). Aren't they the cutest boys you've ever seen? I think my sister would say, they are a bit of a handful.:)
